I haven't used the Synology media server because I don't have a Synology. It wouldn't help you with gapless playback. In your setup, the main advantage of MinimServer would be a more flexible approach to browsing the tags in your music library.

Regarding the id3-tagging, I do that using foobar2000 on my Win7 PC and then upload the file and folder structure to the NAS. What would be the advantages to use Minimserver?

This setup unfortuantely does not do gapless music and I am wondering how to get there other than directly choosing the music on the Oppo? I am also not convinced that Minimserver sees that I have changed a specific playlist - eventhough the date stamp has changed 3.
